ABOUT MARCQUES
A lifelong Mainer and resident of East Deering, Marcques is a local advocate who has dedicated his life to lifting up the voices of people who have often been forgotten. Marcques knows how to advocate for his neighbors, whether it’s through organizing marches for racial justice or advocating for increased access to childcare and early childhood education for children and working families.
The first in his family to go to college, Marcques graduated from Colby College in Waterville and is now pursuing his Master’s in Education at Thomas College. In his professional life, Marcques is an Assistant Track & Field Coach at Colby College.
He is running for Portland Charter Commission in District 4 to represent East Deering, Back Cove, and parts of the Deering Center and North Deering neighborhoods. As a Black, first-generation college student, and a lifelong Mainer from a working-class family, Marcques knows how to make sure that all voices are heard in discussion. He’s running for Charter Commission to bring integrity, accountability, and transparency to City Hall.
